ഒരു വടക്കന് വീരഗാഥ പോലെ ഭാവനയില് വിടര്ന്നൊരു കഥയല്ല ഹരിഹരന്റെ പുതിയ ചിത്രമായ കേരളവര്മ്മ പഴശ്ശിരാജ പറയുന്നത്. ഇതൊരു ചരിത്രകഥയാണ്; ഇന്ത്യയുടെ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യസമര ചരിത്രത്തില് പൊതുവേ വിസ്മരിക്കപ്പെട്ടുപോയ ഏടുകളിലൊന്ന്. 1857-ലെ ഒന്നാം സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യസമരത്തിന് പതിറ്റാണ്ടുകള്ക്കു മുന്പ് ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാര്ക്കെതിരെ ഒരു മലയാളി നടത്തിയ ഈ പോരാട്ടം സാങ്കേതികമികവോടെ സ്ക്രീനില് എത്തിക്കാന് പരിശ്രമിച്ച എം ടി-ഹരിഹരന് ടീമിന് അഭിമാനിക്കാം; പണം മുടക്കിയ ഗോകുലം ഗോപാലനും. ന്യൂനതകള് ഇല്ലെന്നല്ല. എന്നാല്, അവരുടെ ആത്മാര്ഥതയും കഠിനാധ്വാനവും ഈ ചിത്രത്തില് പ്രകടമാണ്. (1964ല് കുഞ്ചാക്കോ പഴശ്ശിരാജയെ വെള്ളിത്തിരയില് എത്തിച്ചിരുന്നു എന്ന് മറക്കുന്നില്ല.)
ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാര് ഏര്പ്പെടുത്തിയ കടുത്ത നികുതിവര്ധനവിനെതിരെ പഴശ്ശിരാജ (മമ്മൂട്ടി) ആയുധമെടുക്കുന്ന കാലത്താണ് സിനിമ തുടങ്ങുന്നത്. ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാര് പഴശ്ശിയെ വേട്ടയാടാന് തുടങ്ങിയതോടെ അദ്ദേഹം വയനാടന് കാടുകളില് നിന്ന് ഒളിപ്പോരു തുടങ്ങി. സൈന്യാധിപനായ ഏടച്ചേന കുങ്കന് (ശരത് കുമാര്), തലയ്ക്കല് ചന്തു (മനോജ് കെ ജയന്), നീലി (പദ്മപ്രിയ), കൈതേരി അമ്പു (സുരേഷ് കൃഷ്ണ) എന്നിവരാണ് പഴശ്ശിയുടെ പടനായകര്. പഴശ്ശിയുടെ പ്രിയതമ കൈതേരി മാക്കവും (കനിഹ) ഒപ്പമുണ്ട്. കുറുമ്പ്രനാട് രാജാവ് (തിലകന്), പഴയംവീടന് ചന്തു (സുമന്) തുടങ്ങിയവര് ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാരുടെ ഭാഗം ചേര്ന്ന് പഴശ്ശിക്കെതിരെ തിരിയുന്നു.

ചരിത്രപുസ്തകങ്ങളില് പോലും അത്ര ആഴത്തില് പരാമര്ശിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടില്ലാത്ത ഒരു കഥാപാത്രത്തിന്റെ ജീവിതത്തിലൂടെയും കാലത്തിലൂടെയും കടന്നുപോകുമ്പോള് എം ടി കാണിക്കുന്ന രചനാവൈദഗ്ദ്ധ്യവും ഹരിഹരന്റെ സംവിധാനപാടവവും ശ്രദ്ധേയം. സാങ്കേതികത്തികവാണ് ഈ സിനിമയുടെ മറ്റൊരു പ്ലസ് പോയിന്റ്. ഛായാഗ്രാഹകന് രാമനാഥ് ഷെട്ടിയും ശബ്ദസന്നിവേശം ചെയ്ത റസൂല് പൂക്കുട്ടിയും പ്രത്യേക പരാമര്ശം അര്ഹിക്കുന്നു; പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് യുദ്ധരംഗങ്ങളില്. കലാസംവിധായകന്, കോസ്റ്റ്യൂമര് തുടങ്ങിയവരും മികവു കാണിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. (ഇത്തരമൊരു സിനിമയുടെ സാങ്കേതികവിഭാഗങ്ങളില് ജോലി ചെയ്യുന്നവരുടെ മികവ് സിനിമയുടെ വിജയത്തില് വളരെ വലിയ പങ്കാണ് വഹിക്കുന്നത്.)
കാസ്റ്റിങ്ങും വളരെ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചാണ് നിര്വഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്. പഴശ്ശിയായി മമ്മൂട്ടിയെയും മാക്കമായി കനിഹയേയുമല്ലാതെ മറ്റാരെയും നമുക്ക് സങ്കല്പിക്കാന് തോന്നില്ല. മനോജ് കെ ജയന്, സുമന് തുടങ്ങിയ പ്രധാന വേഷക്കാര് മുതല് ചെറിയ ചെറിയ വേഷങ്ങളിലെത്തിയ ക്യാപ്റ്റന് രാജുവും മാമുക്കോയയും പേരറിയാത്ത ഏണ്ണമറ്റ അഭിനേതാക്കളും വരെ തങ്ങളുടെ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളെ തികഞ്ഞ പ്രഫഷണലിസത്തോടെ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. എന്നാല്, ഇതിനൊക്കെ അപ്പുറത്ത് രൂപഭാവസൌകുമാര്യങ്ങള് ഒത്തിണങ്ങിയ അഭിനയത്തിലൂടെ സ്ക്രീനില് അനന്തവിസ്മയങ്ങള് തീര്ത്ത് രണ്ടു പേര് കാണികളെ അമ്പരപ്പിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്; ശരത് കുമാറും പദ്മപ്രിയയും. ഇത്ര perfect ആയ അഭിനയം അടുത്ത കാലത്തൊന്നും നമ്മള് മലയാളസിനിമയില് കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല.
WEAK AREAS
1. പഴശ്ശിരാജയുടെ കഥ രാജ്യസ്നേഹം തുളുമ്പുന്ന ഒരു തീവ്രവികാരമായി കാണികളിലേക്ക് പടര്ത്താന് കഴിയുന്നില്ല എന്നതാണ് ഈ സിനിമയുടെ പ്രധാന പോരായ്മ. പഴശ്ശിയുടെ സമരജീവിതം തികഞ്ഞ സാങ്കേതികമികവോടെ ഡൊക്യുമെന്റ് ചെയ്യുന്നതിലാണ് ഹരിഹരന് ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. എം ടിയുടെ തിരക്കഥയും അതിനപ്പുറമൊന്നും ആലോചിക്കുന്നില്ല.
2. സംഗീതവിഭാഗം ദുര്ബലമാണ്; പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് പശ്ചാത്തലസംഗീതം. നല്ലൊരു തീം മ്യൂസിക് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കില് ഈ സിനിമയ്ക്ക് truly different experience സമ്മാനിക്കാന് കഴിയുമായിരുന്നു.
3. ജഗതിയുടെയും ജഗദീഷിന്റെയും കഥാപാത്രങ്ങള് ഒരാവശ്യവുമില്ലാതെ തമാശക്കാരാകാന് ശ്രമിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ഇതുപോലൊരു സിനിമയില് usual buffoonery നമ്മളാരും പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നില്ല.
4. വയര് ട്രിക്കുകളുടെ അവിദഗ്ദ്ധമോ അമിതമോ ആയ ഉപയോഗം കൊണ്ട് ചില സംഘട്ടനരംഗങ്ങളിലെ മലക്കംമറിച്ചിലുകള് അസ്വാഭാവികമാകുന്നുണ്ട്.
5. ചരിത്രകഥയില് ഭാവന കലര്ത്താന് എഴുത്തുകാരനുള്ള അവകാശത്തെ നിഷേധിക്കുന്നില്ല; എങ്കിലും, ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ഡയലോഗുകള് വ്യാകരണപ്പിശകില്ലാതെ പറയാനുള്ള പരിശീലനം പഴശ്ശിക്കുണ്ടായിരുന്നോ എന്ന സംശയം മനസ്സില് ബാക്കി നില്ക്കുന്നു.
6. പാട്ടും തിരക്കഥയിലെ മുറുക്കമില്ലായ്മയും ചേര്ന്ന് സിനിമയുടെ ആദ്യപകുതിക്ക് ചെറിയൊരു ഇഴച്ചില് സമ്മാനിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. മൂന്നേകാല് മണിക്കൂര് സിനിമ നീളുന്നു എന്നതും ഒരു പോരായ്മ തന്നെയാണ്.
7. മനോജ് കെ ജയന്റെ മേക്കപ്പ് ദയനീയം. (മനോജ് അഭിനയത്തിലൂടെ അത് മറികടക്കുന്നുണ്ട് എന്നു കൂടി പറയേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു.)
LAST WORD
തീര്ച്ചയായും കാണേണ്ട സിനിമ; കലാമൂല്യമുള്ള ഒരു സിനിമ കാണാന് മനസ്സിനെ പാകപ്പെടുത്തി പോവുകയും വേണം.

This is a great movie. There are many factors that lend greatness to it. The biggest of them all is the fact that this is definitely a TEAM WORK and showcases the best efforts from every one of them.
Mammootty has given a great performance in this film. The director and the scrip writer has taken extra care to make sure that the characterisation of Pazhassiraja is totally different from Vadakkan Veera Gadha’s Chanthu. Fifteen minutes into the film, and I(like any other audience) clearly understood that Pazhassiraja is completely different from Vadakkan Veera Gadha.So we stop looking for comparisons and from there on we are on a wonderful cruise.
Each and every character in this fiilm has a definitive and well defined role and is portrayed by actors who do great justice to them. Stalwarts like Thilakan, Nedumudi Venu, Captain Raju etc play small but significant and crucial roles with brilliance. Sharath Kumar, Suman, Manoj K.Jayan and Suresh Krishna have all got meaty roles.
Kaniha is so tender and lovable as Pazhassiraja’s wife. But the surprise package for me is Padmapriya. She got a dream role (especially considering the plight of female characters in contemporary films) and excelled in it.
The technicians have all done a superb role. Ilayaraja, Rasool Pookkuutty, Ramnath Shetty all have contributed immensely.
Above all, this film is a clean one that can be enjoyed with the whole family. The film takes us on a journey back to our past. It has succeeded in showcasing the story of one of the earliest freedom fighters of India.
This is a must watch film not only for Malayalees, but for all who love India and wish to learn more about this great nation. Concepts like Adhiti Devo Bhava and unity among all religions comes across very well in the script.
Once again, Mammootty has given a sterling performance as the noble, brave, dignified, courageous, kind and inspiring Kerala Varma Pazhassiraja.

Rubbish, utter rubbish……..This movie is all about the intial hype…..there is no entertainment factor or education factor in this movie. Any stupid actor could have done Pazhazhi Raja’s role in a much better way than Mammooty portrayed it. I am sorry to say that Gokulam Gopalan has lost 27 crores. This movie is going to be the biggest flop in Malayalam movie history.

I am suprised to see the comments written above. I believe that all the above comments (apart from Jincy James’s) are from one source and i believe it is clever marketing by the producers behind it. I saw this movie in the first show and honestly speaking, i feel that i shouldn’t have gone for it. The entire movie is a mess and i got a huge headache by the time the interval arrived. PritviRaj would have done a much better job if he had got the role of Pazhassiraja, because i believe that Mammotty was acting like an amateur. Mammotty must stop acting if he thinks that he can take all Keralites for a foolish ride all the time. As for Hariharan, he tried to create a Vadakkan Veera Gaatha Part 2 and ended up creating some Vedakkan film with no substance.
The only plus point in this film is ilayaraja’s music and Kaniha’s wardrobe (or absence of it). I have a strong feeling that Mammotty’s time is over. Its high time he starts playing his age and roles that suits him like that of a Father or a Grand Father.
My advice to all viewers, dont waste your money in Pazhasseyraja.

pazhassiraja is a wonderful film as it is unique and creates a new era in the malayalam film industry,performance of mammootty & suresh krishna is really appreciable. padmapriya,manoj k jayan and sarath kumar are outstanding,kaniha also portrays her role beautifully.overall its a great film and the credit goes to the whole crew behind this movie
മമ്മൂട്ടി പഴശ്ശിരാജ എന്ന കഥാപാത്രത്തോട് 75% നീതി പുലര്ത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഒരുപാട് ഗവേഷണങ്ങള്ക്കു ശേഷം എഴുതിയ തിരക്കഥയില് എം ടിക്ക് ഒരു തെറ്റു പറ്റി. പഴശ്ശിരാജ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് സൈന്യത്തോട് ഏറ്റുമുട്ടി വീരമൃത്യു വരിക്കുമ്പോള് ആ മഹാത്മാവിന് 32 അല്ലെങ്കില് 33 വയസായിരുന്നു. ആ കഥാപാത്രത്തെ അറുപതിനോടടുത്ത ഒരു നടന് അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ പോരായ്മകള് ഇതിലെ മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ അഭിനയത്തിനുണ്ട്. തന്റെ പ്രതിഭ കൊണ്ട് അതു മറയ്ക്കാന് അദ്ദേഹം ശ്രമിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും പല സീനുകളിലും അതു മുഴച്ചുനില്ക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. പിന്നെ, ഈ സിനിമക്ക് അപ്പുറവും ഇപ്പുറവും മറ്റൊരു മലയാളസിനിമയില്ല എന്ന മമ്മൂട്ടിഫാന്സിന്റെ അഭിപ്രായങ്ങള് അന്ധമായ താരാരാധനയില് നിന്ന് ഇതു കാണുന്ന ഏതു സാധാരണ പ്രേക്ഷകനും ബോധ്യപ്പെടും. ശരത് കുമാറും മനോജ് കെ ജയനും പദ്മപ്രിയയും റോളുകള് നന്നാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഫാന്സ് കണ്ടു കഴിഞ്ഞ് ഫാമിലി ഓഡിയന്സ് കയറുമ്പോള് അറിയാം സിനിമ പ്രൊഡക്ഷന് കോസ്റ്റ് റിക്കവര് ചെയ്യുമോ എന്ന്. എന്തായാലും, കേരളത്തില് നിന്ന് അതിനുള്ള ചാന്സ് കുറവാണ്. ഇതറിയാവുന്നതുകൊണ്ടായിരിക്കാം തമിഴ് ഓഡിയന്സിനെ മുന്നില് കണ്ട് ശരത്കുമാറിന് മമ്മൂട്ടിയോടൊപ്പം തന്നെയോ (അല്ലെങ്കില്, അതിനേക്കാല് കൂടുതലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞാല് അതിശയോക്തിയാവില്ല.) importance കൊടുത്തത്.

I have seen this movie second day. Expected a lot. But nothing. film really dissapointed. Music is good , thats the only plus.Expected a much much better film.
സിനിമ ഇതു വരെ കണ്ടിട്ടില. എന്നിരുന്നാലും സിനിമയെ കുറിച്ച് മോശമായി എഴുതി കാണുമ്പൊള് വിഷം തോന്നുന്നു. കാരണം 50rs മുടക്കി സിനിമ കണ്ട്ട്ട് മോശം അത്ര പോര എന്നൊക്കെ പറയാന് ഒരു വിഷമവും ഈല്ല. ഇതിനു പിന്നില് ഉള്ള strain കാണാതിരിക്കരുത്. അത് ചെറുതല്ല. ഒരുപാടു കലാകാരന്മാര് അവരുടെ മനസും ശരീരവും സമര്പ്പിചിട്ട്ണ്ട്. ഇതു ഈ രൂപത്തില് ആക്കാന്. ഇതിന്റെ നിര്മാതാവ് എന്തായാലും പണം നോക്കിയിട്ടില്ല എന്ന് ഉറപ്പാണ് . അതൊകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ 100 days ഓടുമോ എന്ന് നോക്കേണ്ട . പണം മുഴുവനും തിരികെ കിട്ടുമോ എന്നും നോക്കേണ്ട.. പക്ഷെ ഈ സിനിമ മലയാളത്തിനു അഭിമാനം ഉയര്തുന്നതാണോ എന്ന് നോക്കിയാല് മാത്രം മതി. കുറവുകള് കണ്ടേക്കാം.. എന്നാലും എത്രയും വലിയ effort നെ നിസാരമായി കാണുന്നത് ശരി ആണ് എന്ന് തോന്നുന്ന്നില്ല..

One of the most over rated films in Malayalam history. It is a known fact that Mammotty cannot act, the only thing he is capable of doing is over-act. He has been extremely lucky to make it so far in the industry, but now the time has come for him to say GOOD-BYE. I hope and wish that PazhassyRaja is the last film Mammotty acts as a hero in Malayalam. I truly agree to one of the above comments which mentions that PritviRaj would have been more apt for the role of PazhassyRaja than Mammooty. As of now, Mammooty is only fit for the roles of a father (or the hero’s uncle/grandfather), where he can play his age.
Mr. Hariharan has spoilt a well written script by MT Vasudevan Nair. The screenplay is so awkward that the viewer himself gets confused. The director has tried to confuse,convince and control the viewers, but he has failed in all departments. The main fault from his part was the casting of the hero, he must have taken a younger hero and not an Old Man (PazhazzyRaja was in his 30’s when he died and no in his 60’s (like our hero)). The only saving grace is a glamourous heroine and her outfits which is never a misfit for the viewers.
A request to the readers, never watch this film, instead go and read some books available about this great historical figure.

all most all reviews i read about pazhassiraja,and this is the first time i seeing all r saying one thing its a class picture,must watch movie like this.All are saying one thing that”please dont look the stars because its not a super or megastar film,its really patriotic movie”.the new generation who lost the patriotic feeling,can a get + ve energy from it..thats enough…
wonderful film.Mamooty has lived as pazhasiraja.great performance frm him. and we cannot forget the performance frm sarath, and padma priya. Excellnt movie .we can present this to other languages proudly .i dont know how long we have to wait for such a movie in future.dont miss this.hatts off to hariharan and team

merits-true story,MT great work,xcellent camera,resul pookkutty make good touch in sound mixing(especially in fight sequence,rain),good one graet song-aadhi ushasandhya…,art direction is good,action scenes are perfect,mammootty awsome,sharath kumae suresh krishna good,but manoj k jayan scores in acion scenes,padmapriya is an action wonder,totaly its above a malayalam film.
limitations-lack of great dialogues,time is too(about3.15 hrs)back ground score is average(i think its a copy of old English fims),we miss a good folk song(ambum kombum-ilayarajas song,in film its like a background song,its a good song ie a loss,hariharan cant use that magical music),same time islamic harmany song is average (repeatation scenes ),weak editing-otherwise its a too good film with 2.30minute duration,last time pazhashirajas speak English in a fluent style.?????????……….

i dont know why people criticise this movie so badly, there may be many things to improve in this film but the effort they made to create pazhassiraja is really remarkable, i believe that pazhassiraja will not disappoint u. we should analyse this film as a whole and this is totally absurd to criticise a film just based on some other factors, atleast all malayalees should hav something to proude and we cant expect these kind of malayalam movies in the near future.i dont know why these people comment like hard core critics
50crores or 100 crores, if the movie is not good the viewer will say it’s not good. If the film is a flop let mammootty fans contribute and give to the producer. we go to movie for enjoying it, not to hear the arpuvili of fans. It’s a shame that Keralites (prabudhar) are forming fan clubs for film stars and spending their precious time for promoting their films.

sk നായര് പറഞ്ഞ കാര്യങ്ങളോട് എനിക്ക് യോജിക്കാന് കഴിയില്ല. കാരണം പഴശ്ശിരാജാ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നത് 1752 മുതല് 1805 വരെയാണ് . അപ്പോള് തന്നെ മനസിലാക്കാം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ഏകദേശം 53 വയസുണ്ടയിരുന്നുവെന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ മമ്മൂട്ടിയെ ഈ കഥാപാത്രം ഏല്പ്പിച്ചത് തെറ്റൊന്നുമല്ലെന്ന് മനസിലാക്കാം. അപ്പോള് തോന്നും മോഹന് ലാലിന് എന്താ കുഴപ്പമെന്ന് . മോഹന് ലാലിന്റെ രൂപം ഈ കഥാപാത്രത്തിന് ഒട്ടും ചേരില്ല . എന്തായാല്ലും പഴശ്ശിരാജക്ക് മോഹന്ലാലിന്റെ അത്രയും തടിയില്ല. ക്ഷമിക്കണം ഞാനദ്ദേഹത്തെ ആക്ഷേപിക്കാന് വേണ്ടി പറഞ്ഞതല്ല. അത് കൊണ്ട് കമന്റ് എഴുതും മുമ്പ് കുറച്ചു research ചെയ്യുന്നത് നന്നായിരിക്കും. താങ്കള് പറഞ്ഞതില് നിന്നും ഇരുപതു വയസു കൂടുതലാണ് പഴശ്ശിരാജക്ക്.
സിനിമ കണ്ടു. ഫസ്റ്റ് ഹാഫ് ഇത്തിരി ഇഴച്ചില് ഒഴിച്ചാല് the movie is a big treat. don’t go expecting an entertainment movie. മലയാളത്തിനു എന്നും അഭിമാനിക്കാന് വകയുള്ള ഒരു ചിത്രം. congrats to all the crew

ഒരു വടക്കന് വീര ഗാഥ പോലെ ശോഭിക്കുന്നില്ല പഴശ്ശി രാജ. കച്ചവടം ചെയ്യാന് വന്നവര്ക്ക് നമ്മളെ ഭരിക്കാന് എന്ത് അവകാശം എന്ന വാചകം എന്തിനാണ് പഴശ്ശി രാജാവിനെ കൊണ്ട് പത്തു പ്രാവശ്യം പറയിക്കുന്നത് എന്ന് മനസ്സിലായില്ല. മനോജ് കെ ജയന്റെ താടിയേക്കാള് നന്നായി സ്കൂള് നാടകത്തില് പിള്ളേര് ചെയ്യും. അവസാനം പഴശ്ശി വെടിയേറ്റു വീഴുമ്പോള് The Last Samurai സിനിമയിലേതു പോലെ എല്ലാവരും കുനിഞ്ഞു നമസ്കരിക്കുമോ എന്ന് സംശയം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഭാഗ്യത്തിന് അത് ഉണ്ടായില്ല. കുങ്കനുമായി പയറ്റ് നടത്തുമ്പോള് ഉള്ള പഴശ്ശിയുടെ ചാട്ടം ഭയങ്കരമായി പോയി. എന്തൊക്കെ കുറവുകള് ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലും, കണ്ടു കഴിഞ്ഞു പോന്നാലും മനസ്സില് നിന്ന് പോകാത്ത കുറച്ചു സന്ദര്ഭങ്ങള് ഈ സിനിമ തരുന്നുണ്ട്.

good movie. superb direction & well constructed script . good acting by all actors, mainly sarat kumar, padmapriya, manoj & suresh kishna. nice camera work & locations. one of the best ever made in malayalam film industry. back ground music & songs are not upto the mark. old fasion stunt seens are not good enough- jumping & flying like some tamil films.

with whatever flaws, this is the very first war film made in malayalam, and the best one in indian film, and defnitley you can;t compare this with OVVG as that is truly a dramatic classic. PR is far better than the recent foolish comedies like bhoothams or nonsense craps like bhagavaan or illogical robberis, far far better than the recent mallu films. Then what was your expectation from a malayalam film, a Gladiator?

I agree with Sujith and a lot others that the reviewer tried the best to diminish the importance of this movie. Like he will create better film or he wants to show that he is a genius. Just by seeing the songs and some parts of the film itself, it looked like a classic. I just want to see this movie at the earliest, but unfortunately i am in dubai. I am just thinking to fly to ernakulam or tvm to watch the movie in that atmosphere…
What a movie and a what a reception. It is above our expectation as I was worried that after seeing Balram Vs Taradas from Sasi. But Hariharan proved that class is permanent and can create majic at any age…
And Mammotty who can show that royal look other than him…

ഇങ്ങനെ ഉള്ള ഒരു ചിത്രം എന്ന് ആലോചിക്കുമ്പോള് തന്നെ നമ്മുടെ മുന്നില് തെളിയുന്നത് “ഒരു വടക്കന് വീരഗാഥ” ആണ്. ആ ചിത്രവും ആയുള്ള ഒരു താരതമ്യം തന്നെ ആയിരിക്കും ഈ ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ നെഗറ്റീവ്…. യാതൊരു തരത്തിലും ഒരു തട്ടില് വച്ചു നോക്കാവുന്ന ചിത്രങ്ങള് അല്ല ഇവ എങ്ങിലും…..
ഒരു വടക്കന് വീരഗാഥ യില് ചന്തു എന്ന charactor നെ വളരെ വലിയ ഒരു canvas ഇല് ആണ് എം ടി വരച്ചു കാട്ടിയത്. കുട്ടിക്കാലം മുതല് എല്ലാം.. പിന്നെ ചന്തു വിനെ കുറിച്ച് നമുക്കു യാതൊരു സംശയങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടാകുന്നില്ല. എന്നാലിവിടെ… പഴശ്ശിയുടെ വളരെ ചെറിയ ഒരു കാലം മാത്രം ആണ് നമുക്കു മനസിലാക്കാന് കഴിയുന്നത്. പ്രേക്ഷകര്ക്ക് മുന്പില് പലവിധ സംശയങ്ങളും ഈ ചിത്രം വച്ചു നീട്ടുന്നു. എവിടെ ആണ് ഈ ചിത്രത്തില് പറയുന്ന കോട്ടയം? എന്തിനാണ് പഴശ്ശി ടിപ്പു വിനോട് എതിരെ പോരാടിയത്? അതിനു എന്തിനാണ് കമ്പനി യുടെ സഹായം തേടിയത്? പിന്നെ എന്തിന് അവര്ക്കു എതിരായി? എന്ത് കൊണ്ടാണ് ഒളിപ്പോര് തന്നെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തത്? മറ്റു മുറകള് പരാജയപ്പെട്ടോ? അങ്ങനെ കുറെ സംശയങ്ങള് എനിക്ക് തോന്നി….
കാടിന്റെ മനോഹാരിത പകര്തുന്നതിലും യുദ്ധ രംഗങ്ങള് ചിത്രീകരിക്കുന്നതിലും team മുഴുവനായി വിജയിച്ചോ എന്ന് ഒരു doubt. Ben-Hur(1959 / Directed by William Wyler) എന്ന വിഖ്യാത ചിത്രത്തെക്കാള് മികച്ചതാണ് ഈ ചിത്രം എന്ന് അണിയറ പ്രവര്ത്തകര് പറഞ്ഞതായി കേള്ക്കാന് കഴിഞ്ഞു . (അവര് ആ ചിത്രം കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല എന്നാണ് തോന്നുന്നത്.)
വടക്കന് വീരഗാഥ യിലെ പോലെ അത്ര മനോഹരമായ punch ഉള്ള സംഭാഷണങ്ങള് ഈ ചിത്രത്തില് വിരളമായിരുന്നു. എന്ന് മാത്രമല്ല, പോരില് മുറിവേറ്റു മരണാസന്നനായി കിടക്കുന്ന കൈതേരി അമ്പു (സുരേഷ് കൃഷ്ണ) മരിക്കുമ്പോള് താന് തന്റെ ഇല്ലം/കൊട്ടാരം -ഇല് ഉണ്ടാകുവാന് ആണ് ആഗ്രഹിച്ചിരുന്നത് എന്നതിന് മറുപടിയായി “ഇപ്പോള് അതൊന്നും ഓര്ത്തു വിഷമിക്കണ്ട” എന്ന് പറയുന്ന കൈതേരി മാക്കത്തിന്റെ മറുപടിയോടു ന്യായീകരിക്കാന് പറ്റുന്നില്ല.. (അതൊന്നും ഓര്ത്തു വിഷമിച്ചിട്ട് കാര്യമില്ല.. ഇപ്പോള് ഇതൊക്കെ കൊണ്ടു adjust ചെയ്യണം എന്ന് പറയുന്ന പോലെ തോന്നി..)
Mediaയില് news / Report – വന്നത് കൊണ്ടു മാത്രം Rasool Pookkutty ചെയ്ത സൌണ്ട് ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാന് തോന്നി… ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു എങ്കില് ശ്രദ്ധ ആ ഭാഗത്തേക്ക് പോകുവാന് മാത്രം ഒന്നും തന്നെ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു..
പഴശ്ശിരാജയെ introduce ചെയ്യുന്ന scene കൊള്ളാമായിരുന്നു എങ്കിലും ഇതിലും മനോഹരമാക്കാമായിരുന്നു..
അതുപോലെ climax ല് മാക്കത്തിന്റെ മുഖത്ത് ഉണ്ടായതിലും വിഷമം പ്രേക്ഷകര്ക്ക് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. Climax ലെ തന്നെ company officer ഉടെ സംഭാഷണം ചരിത്രത്തില് രേഖപ്പെടുതിയതാണ് എങ്കിലും അത് പറയാന് വേണ്ടി മാത്രം പറയിപിച്ച പോലെ തോന്നി..
My Final Word.
തീര്ച്ചയായും മലയാള സിനിമ ചരിത്രത്തില് ഇടം പിടിക്കാവുന്ന ഒരു മികച്ച ചിത്രം.
(കുറച്ചു കൂടി ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചിരുന്നു എങ്കില് കുറെ കൂടി മികച്ചതാവുമായിരുന്നു എന്ന് മാത്രം.)
I see a lot of people talking great things about this movie. I too saw it and i too appreciate the effort & strain the team might have undergone to create this. Having said that, i may have to point out certain drawbacks too.
First of all, the one thing which comes to my mind is the casting. It is obvious that Hariharan could have taken a younger hero for the role of PazhassyRaja, instead of an actor who is in his 60’s. Mammotty is lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time, else he wouldn’t have stood so firm in the industry for so long, where we have world class talents like Mohan Lal.
As a matter of fact, i feel that even Kalabhavan Mani would have made the same impact in the role of Pazhassy Raja (even feel that the impact would have been better). Mammotty must start playing his age, and in this movie he would have been more apt in playing the role of Pazhassy Raja’s father, instead of Pazhassi Raja himself.
If you watch world class films like BraveHeart, The Patriot, Gladiator or Saving Private Ryan, you would understand that Hariharan could have made the film much much better. With the same budget, he could have created an epic, which could have gone for a nomination in Oscar, but unfortunately have to say that the director failed miserably in it.

well the movie is once in a life time experince … the lavish works that is some thing unbeliveable and unexpected from malayalam movie and the sound mixing made us experince a hollywood class in the movie but music didnt show any class(elaraja yude stock ellam teerunnu ennu tonnunu) some thing like we have herd a 1000 times before and mamooty was ulter flop!!! we never expected such a job from mamooty!!!! prithviraj would have been a better option as pazhashi raja more than any thing; any b grade actor could have made the movie equally perfect like what mamooty did.. there was a kind of un natural experence of acting by mamooty… exept mamooty and manoj k jayans make up evry thnig was excellent expecially pathmapria and the fantastic visual treat
i must appreciate gokulam filims in making this movie as well as taking the risk. plese dont evaluate movie for supporting an actors flop work even if he is a super star. but this movie has to be watched in a surrond sound thetre. wait for the D.V.D relese if u can arrange few speakers and a woofer

It is premature to give a review of a film of this genure. You should at least watch such movies two times, your first opinion may not be there when you watch it again.and if you like it more during the second watch then that is a defenite sign of class.OWVG was not the biggest grosser of 1989 I remember its produced revealing that it could not recover its cost .but it has stood the test of time and is now acclaimed as a class movie. I felt that P. Raja is defenitly worth a second watch ,whether it is class or not only time will say. Unlike OWVG Hariharan did not had the support of great script, but he has come out successfull. Fisrt half was only average and should be edited. Mapilla song was unnessary. Mammootty tried too hard in the first half but had nothing to perform except for a angry look which he gave to Thilakan immediatly after his introducion. But he performed well in second half. M T sir has written too many englsh words like ” Cases” , ” Police” “rules” etc even for dialoges between local people which is quite surprising.
Mammmoty started his career in 80 and did Veera Gadha in 1989 after 9 years. Prithvi started his career in 2000 and after nine years did one Puthiyamukham.He has not done a single film to justiy a casting as Pazhassi . Dont compere him with Mamootty and Lal. Pazhassi Raja is a malayalam movie and should have a malayalee actor to do the lead role. Defenitly Lal cannot do this role. Forget his physiche , his acting and dialogue delivary is too natural for portraying these type of roles. Failure of Jagathy in Pazhassi is also because of the same reason. Manoj is the only other choice from the curent breed of actors in Malayalam, but Mamootty wih his physical appearance and dialogue delivary is a better choice.

only in indian cinema this fact is mostly concerned- actors age and charachters age…just check he is doing it convincingly or not….and the impact, whtever the impact MT meant for mammotty, he done it in good manner.
and pls donot say MT, hariharan and the all team were fools to cast mammootty in the title role…I coudnot find a single role which Mr. Kalabhavan Mani can do without overacting or with easeness in this film…Even not in the extra artists.
The worst u can do about this movie is to compare this with OWVG. the movies are of different genres. one is based on folk lore and fantasy while the other one is potraying a historical subject. the only similarity is MT, Hariharan & Mammooty. but it sad to see some people commenting abt casting Mani or Prithviraj as Pazhassi Raja. they are talented actors but some are destined or meant to do something.

I dont know why the movie has rated as good only. I has to be minimum excellent. I am not at all a mammootty fan and i also didnt see much of mammootty in this film. But nobody can deny the quality of this film. The script, direction, photography,music,sound and casting are excellent. This can be compared to big budget films like Jodha akbar. Sarathkumar, padmapriya and manoj k jayan excels.
In the beginning it was malayalam film makers who dare to use new technologies and set examples to other languages. We have produced high quality films like padayottam, My dear kuttichathan etc. But these days malayalam cinema is no where compared to Hindi, Tamil or telugu films in terms of using technology and produce high quality films. Pazhassi Raja can be treated as the re-entry of technically good malayalam films.
Excllent cinema.. also the International cenema.. Welldone Pazhashiraja team.

Locations and sets are fentastic.. constumes…and war scenes are good… not happy with the stunds… worth watching.. a good period movie after a long time with greatd sound effects….
i appreciate the movie for the willingness to take that extra mile to achieve the grand scale malayalam cinema was dreaming all these years. of course, the end product is not a perfect one. but criticism like no punch dialogues for Mammootty, etc are quite childish. often our biases create obvious partisan comments. when Mammootty was churning out silly “comedy” roles it triggered widespread demand that he should do mature, strong, character-driven roles. but when such a role came out with brilliant performance some people ask him to stop acting, do father roles, etc – as though mt-hariharan portrayed pazhassi a 21-year old!
i found the music dept quite struggling to to fit the film’s scale. why the flexible actor jagathy failed here is a point. such baffonery could have avoided in this kind of film. sarath kumar , padmapriya, and manoj k jayan did excellent job. some are trying to make out that sarath kumar got more action scenes and so he’s the hero. if not so, why the king needs a “padathalavan”. the same people would have commented, if the film gave more action roles to Mammootty, that the film depended on the stardom of Mammootty.
the way gokulam marketing and organising effective releases in other parts of india, it seems, malayalam cinema is slowly waking up to the realities of challenges in modern-day marketing…
A nice movie to watch with family. Congrats to M.T., Hariharan, Mammootty, SharathKumar, Padmapriya, Kaniha, ManojKJayan, and all those behind the movie. All parts of this movie are excellent except its length and music.

its really a great movie.and must watch.and every malayalee can get proud about pazhassiraj.cinematography extremely great,no previous comparisons.art direction and music is fabulous.i have experienced so badly about background score by great rasool because poor sound systems in our theatures,also some “great editors” than sreekar prasad is there in our theatures.its really bad that they are treating this legendary movie badly.about mammootty he is tremendously portrayed pazhssiraja.no comparisons.sarath kumar,manoj k jayan,padmapriya,kaniha,suresh krishna,suman did a great job.mt’s script is great but expected more than this.very limited no. of memorable dialogues are ther,like climax dialogue and sarath kumar’s arguments with suman.music session did a fabulous job.ilayaraja’s songs are evergreen one really apt for a historical movie.also onv lyrics really poetic beauty,simply great.about direction hariharan once again proved his master.thank you gogulam gopalan for funded this movie.

To those who commented that prithviraj is the apt actor as pazhassiraja: I have a string feeling that they haven’t watched the movie and making some bluff comments. Pazhassi Raja was in his 50’s when the story happened, and who else other than mammootty can play this role, he is not playing a role of a 21 year old guy.
One more thing, can prithviraj can bring the right expression on his face as mammootty do, there is a scene in which mammootty doesn’t talk and the message is conveyed through his expression. I don’t think that none other mammootty in Indian film industry can do the role of pazhassi raja. I have watched this movie 3 times, not because I am a fan of any actors, but the way the movie carried the emotions. After interval I started feeling so sad, not about the movie, about the situation we were facing that we became powerless.. and I have seen that change even in the appearence of mammootty, he was looking so dull in the second half, after year longs stay in forest with full of war…
Those who put the comment here about the movie should know the story of pazhassi raja also and the period this war happened.
The movie is awesome, coz even during the 3rd time also i never felt bored and fully with the movie. Everyone did their role perfectly.
Ok I forgot to answer one guy who commented that Kaniha (makkom) barely use wardrobe. You please watch the movie with a good eye rather than a rapist eye. The dressing of the Keralite women in that period was like that and do you think that Makkom should wear salwar in the movie.

In the ‘Pazhassiraaja’ moovie hariharan &MT could not bring the necessary power & vigour to a character,who was named as the’lion of Kerala’.In the film we meet a distressed,dippressed and a disgusted warrior.Even a talented actor like mammootty could not to any justice to that character.But Sarathkumar was great in that moovie as Edachena Kunkan.You have to give a special praise to Devan who acted as Kannavam Nambiar.Manoj.K.jayans,Thalakkal Chanthu & Padmapriya’s Neeli had also stole quick march over the hero Mammutty.He finishes to a poor 5th.The recording,Sound effects & photography were fantastic.

Thanks..And Again a ‘hats off’ to Pazhassi raja [watched the movie second time]
Pazhassi Raja is one of the best films ever made in Malayalam. It is infact a Razool Pookkutty’s film. The sound recordings/effects are marvelous. One should watch this movie just to enjoy Pookutty’s magic. The excellent cenematography is also a plus point of this film. One feel sad at the performance of Mammooty as the hero as he could not do full justice to the role. He fails to emote as the situations warranted. His physical gaiety may suit for the Raja but that alone will not help to immortalise the features of the great warrior king. Perhaps, M.T’s screen play, which could not keep continuity in narration to bring home to the audiance the story of Pazhassi Raja, might have restrained (?) this actor to reach the heights he achived in “Vadakkan Veeragadha”.

ഒരു ചരിത്ര സംഭവത്തെ വളരെ മനോഹരമായി ചിത്രീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. മലയാള സിനിമാ ചരിത്രത്തില് പഴശ്ശിരാജാ അതിന്റെ അനിയോഗ്യ്മായ സ്ഥാനം നേടി കഴിഞിരിക്കുന്നു , പ്രേക്ഷക മനസില്ലും.

Photography & Sound is excellent….Dubai Galleria cinema was full house when i watch the movie after two weeks…

ബ്രിടീഷ് കാര് മായുള്ള നികുതി ഉടമ്പടി പ്രകാരം കിട്ടേണ്ട നികുതി പണം കിട്ടാതെ വന്നപ്പോള് മാത്രമാണ് പഴാസ്സി രാജാ ബ്രിട്ടിഷ് കാരോട് യുദ്ധം ചെയ്തത്
ബീരുത്വം ത്തിന്റെ പ്രതീകമായ് ആത്മഹത്യാ ചെയ്ത പുളളിക്കാരന് എപ്പോഴാണ് ധീരനും വീരനുമായ് ചിത്രീ കരിക്കപെട്ടത് ചരിത്രങ്ങള് വളചോടിക്ക പെടുന്നത് തടേയെന്ടവര് തന്നെയാണ്
ഞാന് ഒരു മമ്മുട്ടി ഫാന് അല്ല..മോഹന്ലാലിന്റെ അഭിനയം ഇഷ്ടം ഉള്ള ആളാണ് . പക്ഷെ മംമുട്ട്യുടെ സിനിമകള് പലതും ഇഷ്ടപെടുന്നു….
പഴഴ്സീരാജ കണ്ടിരിക്കാന് നല്ല സിനിമയാണ്… പക്ഷെ … ഈ സിനിമയില് പഴശിരാജയ്ക്ക് വേണ്ടത്ര പ്രാധാന്യം കിട്ടിയില്ല എന്ന് തോന്നുന്നു… ഒരു പക്ഷെ അത് മംമുടിയുടെ മേയിവഴക്കതിന്റെ കുറവ് കൊണ്ടാകാം…. പക്ഷെ ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരു ബിഗ് ബജറ്റ് ചിത്രത്തില് തുടക്കത്തില് തന്നെ ക്യാമറ ഷേക്ക് ആവുന്നത് പോലുള്ള അപാകതകള് ഒഴിവാകാമായിരുന്നു… അവസാനത്തെ യുദ്ധം “300″ എന്ന ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് സിനിമയിലെ അതെ സീന് ആണ്…. അതൊക്കെ ഒരു അടിച്ചുമാറ്റല് അല്ലെ… റസൂല് പൂകുടിയുടെ സൌണ്ട് എല്ലാം അപാരം …. വാളിന്റെ സൌണ്ട് ആണ് എനക്ക് ഏറ്റവും ഇഷ്ടമായത്… സരത് കുമാര് അപാരമായ അഭിനയവും ആക്ഷനും ആണ്… മനോജും പദ്മപ്രിയയും സുരേഷും സുമനും എല്ലാരും കലക്കി… മമ്മുട്ടിക്ക് സീനുകള് കുറവാണു… ഇന്ദ്രോടുച്റേന് പോര … ഇടക്ക് ഇരുട്ടതുള്ള യുദ്ധം കൊള്ളാം…
300 ലെ സീന് ആണോ എന്നറിയില്ല പക്ഷെ ട്രോയ് സിനിമ യിലെ സീന് കോപ്പി ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്…

ചരിത്ര സംഭവം എന്നൊക്കെ കൊട്ടി ഘോഷിക്കുന്നതു കാണുന്നത് കൊണ്ട് ചില
വിമര്ശനങ്ങള് കുറിക്കാം എന്ന് കരുതി..എന്റെ കാഴ്ച്ചപ്പ്ട് എന്ന്
കരുതുക.ഇതില് മറ്റു ഉദ്ദേസങ്ങള് ഒന്നും ഇല്ല.രാജാവ് തുണി ഉടുതിട്ടില്ല എന്ന്
ആരെങ്കിലും ഒക്കെ പറയേണ്ടേ..ഇനി രാജാവ് സര്വാഭരണ വിഭൂഷിതന് ആണെന്നാണ്
ഭൂരിപക്ഷം എങ്കിലും വിരോധം ഒന്നും ഇല്ല ബഹുജനം പല വിധം അത്ര തന്നെ.
ഇത് ഒരു ചരിത്ര സംഭവം അല്ല എന്ന് പറയാന് കാരണങ്ങള്
1.അമിത പ്രതീക്ഷ വേണ്ട എന്ന് മനസ്സില് ഒത്തിരി പറഞ്ഞു കൊണ്ട് തന്നെ ആണ് ആദ്യ
ദിവസം തന്നെ തീയറ്ററില് പോയി സിനിമ കണ്ടത്.എന്നിട്ട് പോലും ഇത് ഒരു സാധാരണ
മമ്മൂട്ടി സിനിമ ആയിട്ടെ തോന്നിയുള്ളൂ.എവിടെ എം ടി എന്ന് വിളിച്ചു ചോദിക്കണം
എന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.വടക്കന് വീര ഗാഥ യും ആയി താരതമ്യം ചെയ്യരുത് എന്ന്
വിചാരിച്ചിരുന്നു പക്ഷെ അറിയാതെ ചെയ്തു പോവും.അജ ഗജാന്തരം എന്ന് തന്നെ പറയാം
ഇത് തമ്മില്.
സാധാരണ തട്ടുപൊളിപ്പന് സിനിമ യില് ചെയ്യാവുന്നത് പോലെ ഉള്ള വിട്ടു വീഴ്ചകള്
ഒക്കെ ചെയ്തു കുറെ പൈസ മുടക്കിയതിന്റെ പൊടിപ്പും ഒക്കെ ആയി ഒരു സിനിമ
കണ്ടിരിക്കാം അത്ര തന്നെ.ബോര് അടിപ്പിക്കതിരിക്കാന് എല്ലാ ചേരുവകളും
ചേര്ത്തിട്ടുണ്ട് കനിഹ യും പദ്മപ്രിയ യും ഒക്കെ കൈ മേയ് മറന്നു
അഭിനയിചിരിക്കുക അല്ലെ.
അല്ലാതെ എം ടി ക്ക് ഒക്കെ പറ്റും എന്ന് വിചാരിക്കുന്ന രീതിയില് ഉള്ള ഒരു ധീരം
ആയ ഒന്നോ ചരിത്രത്തോട് നീതി പുലര്ത്തുന്നതോ ഒന്നും ആയ ഒരു “സംഭവം” അല്ല ഇത്
എന്ന് തന്നെ പറയാം.
എനിക്ക് അനുഭവപ്പെട്ട കല്ല് കടികള്
1. ഈയിടെ തന്നെ വയനാട്ടില് പഴശ്ശിയുടെ ശവകുടീരത്തില് പോയ ഒരാള് ആണ് ഞാന്.ആ
സമയത്ത് അവിടെ നിന്നപ്പോള് ഈ ധീരനായ മനുഷ്യനെ കുറിച്ച് മനസ്സില് നിറഞ്ഞു
വന്ന വികാരങ്ങളുടെ ,ദേശ സ്നേത്തിത്നെ 1% പോലും ഈ സിനിമയ്ക്ക് ഉണര്ത്താന്
കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.എന്റെയും ചുരുക്കം ചിലരുടെയും കുഴപ്പം ആവാം എന്ന്
കരുതിയിരുന്നു.പക്ഷെ തീയറ്ററില് പുതിയ തലമുറയുടെ പ്രതികരണങള് കാണുകയും
കേള്ക്കുകയും ചെയ്തപ്പോള് പലരുടെയും ഹൃദയത്തില് ഇത്തരം വികാരങ്ങള് ഒന്നും
ഉണരുന്നില്ല എന്ന് മനസ്സിലായി.മരിച്ചു ക നീ ഹ തൊട്ടു സുന്ദരിയായ ആദിവാസി ആയ
എക്സ്ട്രാ നദികള് സ്ക്രീനില് വരുമ്പോള് ആയിരുന്നു പലരുടെയും വികാരങ്ങള്
ഉണരുന്നത് എന്ന് തീയറ്ററിലെ ആര്പ്പു വിളികള് ഓര്മിപ്പിച്ചു.സങ്കടം
തോന്നി.സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം ഒന്നൊരു സംഭവത്തിനു വേണ്ടി അടിമത്തത്തിന് എതിരെ
പോരാടിയ,മൂല്യങ്ങള്ക്ക് വേണ്ടി ശാരീരിക ത്യാഗങ്ങള് വരെ സഹിച്ചവരെ ഒരു നിമിഷം
ഓര്മിപ്പിക്കാന് ഈ സിനിമ ഉതകുന്നില്ല എങ്കില് പിന്നെ എന്ത് പ്രയോജനം.സിനിമ
കണ്ടിട് ഇറങ്ങുമ്പോള് മമ്മൂട്ടി സരത്കുമാര് പദ്മപ്രിയ ഒകെ ഓര്മയില് ഉണ്ട്
പക്ഷെ പഴശ്ശിരാജ ഉണ്ടോ എന്നറിയില്ല.പത്രം വായിക്കാത്ത വോട്ട് ചെയ്യാന്
താല്പര്യം ഇല്ലാത്ത പഴശ്ശിയെ കുറിച്ച് പഠിച്ചിട്ടില്ലാത്ത ഇന്നത്ത തല
മുറയ്ക്ക് പഴശ്ശി രാജ എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞാല് സ്ക്രീനില് മസില് പിടിക്കാന്
ശ്രമിച്ചു നിക്കുന്ന മമ്മൂട്ടി ആയിരിക്കു ഇനി മുതല്.തുടക്കത്തിലോ ഒടുവിലോ
എങ്കിലും കുറച്ചു ചരിത്ര പരം ആയ വസ്തുതകള് എഴുതി എങ്കിലും കാണിക്കണം ആയിരുന്നു
ഒരു tribute ആയിട്ട്.കുറഞ്ഞ പക്ഷം ഇത് കാണുന്ന അന്യ ഭാഷക്കാരെയും ദേശക്കാരെയും
എങ്കിലും ഓര്ത്തു.
ഇത് പോലെ ഒരു സിനിമ അല്പം reallistic ആയി എടുത്തിരുന്നെലും മലയാളികള് കണ്ടേനെ
ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടെനെ എന്നാണ് ഞാന് വിശ്വസിക്കാന് ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നത്.ഉദാഹരണത്തിന് ഒരു
കൂറ വിഗ് നു പകരം മനോജ് കെ ജയന് ശരിക്കും താടി വെപ്പിക്കാം
ആയിരുന്നു.ആദിവാസികള് എന്ന് മുതലാ ഇങ്ങനെ പച്ച മലയാളത്തില്
സംസാരിക്കുന്നതു.പദ്മപ്രിയ ആവട്ടെ ആദിവാസികളുടെ ഭാഷയ്ക്ക് പകരം തമിള്
തെലുങ്ക് ചുവയില് മലയാളം പറയുന്നു.ആദിവാസികളില് ഭൂരിഭാഗം കുടക്
സുന്ദരിമാര്.ഏറ്റവും വലിയ കോമഡി മദാമ്മ ഇംഗ്ലീഷില് poison എന്ന് പറയുമ്പോള്
ആദിവാസി “അത് വിഷം ആണോ എന്ന് ചോദിച്ചതാ എന്ന്” തര്ജ്ജിമ ചെയ്തു കൊടുക്കുന്ന
സീന് ആണ്.ഇപ്പോള് ആദിവാസി കുടിയില് പോയി നോക്കിയാലും ഇങ്ങനെ brilliant
ആള്ക്കാരെ കിട്ടില്ല.ഇനയിരുന്ണേല് അവളെ IAS നു വിടാമായിരുന്നു.എന്തിനാണ്
അത്തരം stupid scenes എന്ന് ആലോചിച്ചിട്ട് ഒരു ഇതും പിടിയും ഇല്ല.ഇങ്ങനെ ഒക്കെ
എം ടി എഴുതി എന്ന് കരുതാന് പ്രയാസം.കാഞ്ചന സീതയിലെ പോലെ താടി വെച്ച രാമനും
ഒന്നും വേണ്ട അത്രയ്ക്ക് reallism വേണ്ട എന്ന് തന്നെ ഇരിക്കട്ടെ പക്ഷെ കോടികള്
മുടക്കാതെ തന്നെ അല്പം കൂടി റിയലിസം ആയിക്കൂടെ കാരണം ഒരു എം ടി ഹരിഹരന് സിനിമ
അല്ലെ?താടി വളര്തിയിരുന്ണേല് ഒരു വിഗ് ന്റെ കാശ് ഗോകുലം ഗോപാലന്
ലാഭിക്കംയിരുന്നല്ലോ എന്ന് പോലും ആലോചിച്ചു പോയി.
ചരിത്രത്തോട് ഈ സിനിമ നീതി പുലര്ത്തുന്നുണ്ടോ എന്ന സംശയം ഇപ്പോളും
ബാക്കി.പഴശ്ശി രാജ ബ്രിടീഷ് കാരുടെ കയ്യില് പെട്ട് മരിക്കുന്നത് ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടാതെ
മോതിരം വിഴുങ്ങി ആത്മ ഹത്യ ചെയ്തു എന്നാണ് പടിചിട്ടുള്ളതും വായിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളതും.
പഴശ്ശി രാജയെ ഒരു പാട് വിമര്ശിച്ച ദീപ്സിന്റെ കമന്റ്സ് കണ്ടു. എട്ടു കോടി മുടക്കി നല്ല രീതിയില് എടുത്ത യുഗ പുരുഷന് എന്ത് സംഭവിച്ചു എന്ന് കൂടി ഓര്ക്കെണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു .പദ്മ പ്രിയയെയും കനികയെയും കണ്ടു വേറെ അര്ത്ഥത്തില് കാണികള് കൈ അടിചെങ്കില് നമ്മുടെ യുവതലമുറയുടെ മാറിയ മനോഭാവത്തില് സങ്കടപ്പെടുക ആണ് വേണ്ടത്.അല്ലാതെ പദ്മപ്രിയ പര്ദ്ദ ഇട്ടു അഭിനയിക്കണം എന്നാണോ…………..?
